#TRENDALERT: CERASUOLO D’ABRUZZO: AN ITALIAN ROSÉ THAT PACKS ONE HELL OF A PUNCH
If you’re feeling over the whole, “rosé all day,” aesthetic and drinking a million pale pink wines that taste exactly the same… Give Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo a shot.
What is Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo?
Cerasuolo translates to “pale cherry red,” and it’s a style of rosé that is popular within the Abruzzo DOC. It is made from the red Montepulciano grape, and is a rosé that tastes straight up gangsta.
Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo is a red wine drinker’s rosé
Montepulciano is Italy’s second most planted red grape variety after Sangiovese, and this dry, medium-bodied, relatively acidic grape has loads of aromas of red plums, baking spices, and even a smoky mesquite sort of quality. To me, it is a bit similar to some expressions of American Zin.
Cerasuolo rosé tends to have the structure of a red wine, so if you love your Beaujolais or Etna Rosso, this is the Rosé for you!
This super tannic, deep red rosé is honestly the ultimate #burgerwine. And as we enter the dog days of Summer, you’re going to want to add a bottle of this style of rosé into your rotation the next time you want to shake up your Summer imbibing.
What to Pair Cerasuolo Rosé With?
Cerasuolo Rosé is a great wine to pair with richer, meatier dishes. The heavier tannins make it perfect for barbecue of any kinds, Korean food, Thai food, or even dim sum. '
PICK OF THE WEEK: LUNARIA PETTIROSCE CERASUOLO ROSÉ $15.99 @ WHOLE FOODS
I could not stop thinking about how massively structured this wine was the second I tasted it. If you’re a fan of those mouth-drying tannins that Cabernet Sauvignon or even Syrah possess, this is definitely a rosé you need to try.
The Pettirosco Rosé screams “Enjoy me with meat!” It is not your typical ballerina pink, acidic, light and dry Provençal potion. Nor is it a “rosé all day wine” that wears a brunch hat, goes to Coachella, and goes by the name of “Asheligh.”
This is a rosé that plays football - and is probably a linebacker to boot. It’s just enormous. Loads of boysenberries, chocolate, and dried oregano. Nebbiolo-lovers will geek out over some of the darker, tarry qualities this wine has. Basically? It’s powerful af. And if you’re one of those folks who is a hard core Cabernet Sauvignon drinker who shies away from swigging glasses of pink, you’ll reconsider if you have a bottle of this puppy.
The perfect outdoor BBQ rosé. And of course, it slaps with a good cheeseburger - as that acid will cut through the creamy fatty qualities of the dish.
