Thurst Queen About

WELCOME

Let me preface this with the following statement — I usually come up with all of my best ideas when I’m drunk.

For several years, I worked in the Wine Industry.  What did I do for a living? I sold wine.

I used to call it “slinging.”  I slung a lot of different types of wines.  Big powerful Barolos, elegant Pinot Grigios, “classic” Napa wines, and the good stuff… Champagne.  Lots of Champagne.

People would always ask me about wine.  They would look at wine lists in restaurants and get overcome with anxiety — almost paralyzed with fear.  Wine lists seem to have that effect on people, and it makes sense.  Lots of them aren’t very user friendly.

I saved a lot of people from making bad decisions, helped them order wines they liked that were the best bang for their buck, and got them drunk enough to the point where they would make other sorts of bad decisions.  But that’s subject matter for another blog.

HOW IT STARTED…

It was one of those nights where I had way too many glasses (or Solo cups don’t judge me) of whatever “orange hipster natural made by fairies covered in dogshit aged in some sort of amphora and blessed by monks” kind of wine.

Before the inevitable hangover, I took two Advil, chugged an entire bottle of sparkling water, and decided —

“Holy shit, I should just write about wine and share my wine knowledge that borders on pretension with the world so people can make informed drinking decisions and never feel alone when in the wine aisle of a Trader Joe’s ever again!”

Et voilà!  That’s how Thurstqueen was born.

Thurstqueen will tell you all the tips and tricks to find a wine confidently, learn about the different wines around the world, help pair them with what you’re eating, and get the best bang for your buck the next time you decide to get to drinking.

This blog is meant to be educational, with a “Pick of the Week” section where I’ll share thoughts on $35.00 and under wines that I consider to be a great value.

They could be wines I’ve sold back in my distributor days, and wines I’ve encountered in my own wine journey that I thought were true standouts.

Because the bottom line is this: wine should be for everyone, not just a few fancy and rich muckety mucks who want to talk shop and get off on tasting their verticals.  Bitch please.

I hope you find this blog useful and I do hope it helps you feel more confident the next time you go into a Restaurant, Wine Shop, or Grocery Store and have that inevitable “I’m all alone” moment in the wine aisle or when looking at the wine list.  Because you’re not.

Well, that’s enough of me yammering on.  Let’s get to the good stuff!  Happy drinking!

Xoxo & Champagne,

The Thurstqueen
