50 SHADES OF ROSÉ

3 DIFFERENT TYPES OF ROSÉS UNDER $30.00 TO TRY THIS SUMMER

French Rosé. Especially Provençal rosé. Everybody talks about it. Everybody drinks it. And there are some people where it’s the only stuff of the pink persuasion that they’ll drink.

To me, this is very much the pink version of the person who says, “I only drink Cab.” I have another word for this, it rhymes with smasic smitch and starts with a b.

Salt and sass aside, there is a very real reason why you should put away your pink Provençal potions and branch out of your comfort zone. There are SO MANY interesting rosés out there, and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you only drank rosé from one country - or even one appellation.

So without further ado, here are 3 different types of Rosé from very interesting regions you should try the next time you want to get your pink on.

LA FERME ROUGE $15.99 @ Lincoln Fine Wines - MOROCCO

If you’re a fan of fruitier rosé from Spain, the Languedoc, or even warmer parts of the Loire Valley like the Anjou region - La Ferme Rouge is the perfect rosé to try. This Moroccan rosé has an absolutely gorgeous aroma of ripe summer watermelon kissed with a little bit of sea salt. On the palate, I got a subtle touch of raspberry French macaroon.

The wine is dry, not sweet, but has a pleasantly zesty texture. There’s enough weight to La Ferme Rouge where it can go toe to toe with any hearty meat-based dish. Consider it the perfect wine to bring to any summer barbecue or have with spicy Mexican food.

URKI BI TXAKOLINA ROSÉ - $9.99 @ Whole Foods - SPAIN

With aromas of ripe Summer melons and sea air, the Urki Bi Getariako Txakolina is the perfect, uncomplicated poolside sipper. This funky little party wine dances with bright, glittering minerality and fans who love Provençal wines like the ultra-popular Whispering Angel will gravitate to Urki Bi’s passionfruit and citrusy aromas.

This wine is like a brilliant, pink little laser beam. It’s crisp, focused, and very straight-forward. There is plenty of minerality here, and the Urki Bi Txakolina begs to be paired with sushi and oysters. With all that in mind, this wine is easy going enough to be enjoyed on its own or with friends.

TRESOMM GRIGNOLINO ROSÉ. $22.99 @ Lincoln Fine Wines - MEXICO

This watermelon tourmaline colored gem of a wine hails from one of my favorite up and coming regions - the Valle de Guadalupe. The Valle has a special place in my heart, as my first gig in the wine industry was slinging wines from this region. I’m going to sing this region’s praises until I’m blue in the face and champion the shit out of it until I die. Yeah, shit just got real but that’s just how much I love the creativity and imaginative wines coming out of this region.

The Tresomm Rosé is definitely going to be the sweetest on the spectrum of wines listed here. But that is definitely not a bad thing at all. It’s got no more residual sugar than one of the finest rieslings out of the Mosel. With aromas of wild raspberry, freshly cracked white pepper, and hints of strawberry pez, the Tresomm Grignolino Rosé is the perfect wine to pair with all things spicy. If you’ve ever had riesling with spicy food, you’ll totally get it. I would have this beauty of a rosé with Thai Food, Indian Food, and of course Mexican food.

There’s that saying within the wine community, “what goes together grows together,” and in the case of the Tresomm Rosé I could ‘t agree more. This wine with some barbacoa beef tacos or carnitas nachos, slathered in hot salsa? Perfection.

See? Great rosé comes from all over the world - not just France.

I hope this article inspires you to step outside your pink comfort zone and try rosé from other parts of the globe.
